I suppose with this first issue I should just take a moment to thank all of you who have followed along with me through hill and dale as the path of my life has certainly seen its share of peaks and valleys. Through the years I have tried to narrow the focus of my writing and center on the stories I have gleaned from nature intermixed with the lessons I have had to learn and the trials I have faced. This is how many of you came to know me, through the story of The Eagle Christian. When my nature studies first began I had no idea that they would set the course of my life for the next twenty-five years. As you follow along with the newsletters you will see that some of the most profound things we will ever learn are hidden in creation, waiting on God’s perfect time to be revealed.
It seems that the prerequisite for knowing God is that we must first go looking for Him. Although from my perspective it’s hard to go anywhere without running into Him. Writing The Eagle Christian, no actually I think it was in the research leading up to the writing, I tenaciously tried to find some spiritual meaning to the daily affairs of the golden eagle. I scrutinized and studied every morsel I could find, always trying to relate it back in some way to our walk with God.
The end result was not the writing of The Eagle Christian but rather the journey that it put me on. I had spent so much time researching the eagle’s story that by the time I finished I had begun to look for God under every rock, behind every leaf. And although I thought I had exhausted all possible comparisons between the eagle and the Christian, it was only a matter of days after the book went to press and I was back on the road to discovery. The study began to go beyond the eagle’s life and I found myself looking at all of creation as a revelation of God Himself. I took note of the scriptural references where godly attributes and human nature were compared to some aspect of creation.

For me, it was no longer just the eagle’s story it was the good shepherd, the lily of the valley, the lion of Judah, the still waters, all of a sudden the rocks and the trees had a story to tell.
The sparrow, the lamb, the ant, the morning star, to my wonder and delight God was all around and until this time had gone, for the most part, unnoticed and therefore unappreciated. It was a eureka moment when I realized that God had place into every aspect of the universe some portion of Himself in the same way an artist places something of himself into his work. The scriptures came alive; creation became a mirror reflecting the beauty, depth and love of God.
Something sleeping inside of me had been awakened and I was being drawn deeper and deeper into a plot that was clearly thickening. It was as though I had viewed the world around me with blurred vision, not quite able to focus on its divine origins or meaning. I had just begun the most incredible journey of my life, a quest to discover some extraordinary things and wonderful places. These are the stories I will be sharing with you each month in this newsletter.
